ANGELS ARCHANGELS LISTS AMIGA |
 Ahhh...
the sight of Claire Danes dressed up as an angel from Baz Luhrmann's
great modern interpretation of Romeo & Juliet. So, what's my reason
for having a picture of Claire on my rather shady attempt at constructing
a personal website? I am kind of rather fond of her for sure, so for
that reason alone I've allowed her to be the cover mode for my main
site page! The fact that she is sporting a rather convenient set of
wings is only a coincidence... honest ;-)My web space is given to the artists, bands and people who have given me happiness and a reason to live. The people and bands who have influenced my character and directions in life have all been collated together under the headings of Angels (for the important people in my life), and Archangels (for the important bands in my life). My choices are certainly intriguing! Belinda Carlisle for example, sits very proudly with Melissa Auf der Maur and Liz Phair. Artists with very different lives, outlooks and styles. Belinda I guess is my number one, as it is her I have to ultimately thank for giving me something to focus on in my life at the very beginning, year zero I guess. It set me out into something that was very different to that of my peers. There is no escaping the fact that all my Angels are ladies. From the forthright greatness of Liz Phair, the beautiful lilting Welsh sounds of Cerys Matthews, to the very reason of my popboy namesake in Helen Love, my angels are the people who have most influenced me in my life. My Archangels feature bands with reasonably diverse music styles. From the indie sounds of Lush and The Breeders, hugely influential to me in giving me the motivation to learn to play my bass guitar. The Field Mice and Curve, two bands that I loved from the start after I was introduced to them by a university friend of mine have remained a permanent listening favourite. Finally, The Donnas, a four piece all girl rock 'n roll band who never fail to make me happy every time I listen to them. Plus they're a band who I am trying to learn to play the guitar to! I am avid compiler of lists. So, for this reason alone, I maintain my ever changing life in music, screen and people by altering this love of lists. A predictable list of my life ensures with favourites on and off the screen - my love of the film True Romance head to head with the great sci-fi TV series Babylon 5. A (not so) definitive list of concerts I've been to (well, the proof that I've been to them anyway...), and a genuine list of my guilty pleasures - S Club 7 and A-ha? You've got to be kidding, haven't you? And the most hotly contentious of them all, three lists containing my favourite albums and songs of all time, and my favourite albums and singles on a yearly basis, founded by me way back when my music buying took off in 1991.
